According to RAC1’s Gerard Romero, American wunkerkind Sergiño Dest is expected to fly to Barcelona from Amsterdam on Sunday to finalize a move to the Catalan giant. The 19-year-old reportedly bid farewell to his teammates at Ajax on Saturday, and will become the latest player from the Dutch club to leave this summer. If this move does get completed, he will become new Barca manager Ronald Koeman’s first signing with the side.

The American international burst onto the scene in many regards last season, not only at the club level, but also on the world stage. Dest became the USMNT’s latest call up last September, and instantly became a reliable option for the Stars and Stripes. On the domestic side, Dest similarly became a dependable rotation player for Ajax manager Erik ten Hag. He made 35 appearances in all competitions for the famed Dutch side, and even scored two goals. To put into perspective just how important he was for “de Godenzonen”, he appeared in as many games as Hakim Ziyech and only two fewer than recent Manchester United signing Donny van de Beek.

While the official numbers regarding this move aren’t confirmed, famed football journalist Fabrizio Romano said that Catalan giant will pay around 22-23 million euros and could send more in add-ons later on. Dest will sign a five-year contract that will end when the American is 24-years-old. According to many in the football journalist sphere, Barca were able to out maneuver the European Champs Bayern Munich for the youngster’s services, mostly because Dest preferred to play with them.

Now with Dest basically on his roster, it will be interesting to see how Koeman works him in the system. The club recently lost right back Nelson Semedo to Wolves, so it could mean Dest will receive some play time right away. The team only has one other primary right back, that being Sergi Roberto, who’s been spotty at best for the club lately. So if Dest does come into the club, he could be eased into a starting role pretty quickly, which would do wonders for the USMNT as a whole.
