Lions @ Cardinals Game Preview

Kyler Murray, former number 1 pick, is looking to lead the Arizona Cardinals to 3-0 start against the 0-2 Detroit Lions.  The Cardinals ended last season with a 5-10-1 during Murray’s rookie year.  Flash forward to year two in the NFL for Murray, and the Cardinals have brought in DeAndre Hopkins to add fire power alongside Kenyan Drake.  While it is still early in the season, the Murray-Hopkins-Drake offense looks to have the potential to compete in the NFC.

The Lions have not won a game since beating the Giants, last season in Week 8.  Feel free to double check my math but that seems to be like a 11-game losing streak.  The Lions on papers are not a bad team, but either they do not execute or just throw the game away.  The Lions let Trubisky and the Bears come back from a 23-6 entering the 4th quarter, where a lot went wrong.

Two wins are nothing to be too over-hyped about, but the Cardinals are quickly becoming a fun team to watch.  Remember half of the 49ers team was injured during the game week one, while Week 2 was against the Washington Football Team led by another young quarterback in Dwayne Haskins.  Regardless, you cannot take away the fact that Murray is becoming a problem for defenses both on the ground and on the air.  The Cardinals have provided Murray with weapons and protection, and now is the time for him to show why he drafted number one overall.

Murray vs Stafford by the numbers this season:

MurrayStafford
Completions/ Attempts52/7844/75
Passing Yards516541
Touchdowns23
Interceptions22
Rushing Yards158 (Leads team)27
Rushing Touchdowns3 (Leads Team)0
Sacked55

Murray has more rushing touchdowns than the Lions’ backfield, while only Cam Newton has more rushing touchdowns than Murray.  The game plan for the Cardinals may just be to attack on the ground with Murray and Drake.  The Lions’ allowed the Bears to run for 149 yards on the ground in week 1.  Week 2, it was Aaron Jones and the Packers running for 168 yards and scoring 2 touchdowns.

Game Predictions

Cardinals Win.

Kyler Murray runs all over the Lions, sparking the conversation that Murray could be joining Lamar Jackson and Michael Vick as another QB running for 1,000 Yards.
