Game One of the 2020 Stanley Cup Finals last night resulted in an impressive 4-1 win for the Dallas Stars over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Right from the start of this playoffs the Stars have been counted out of nearly every series including against Colorado, and Vegas however were able to upset both teams to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 2000.

The opening game of this intriguing series between a dark horse Dallas team, and a heavily favored Tampa Bay Lightning team that has been considered the best team in the NHL for the past two seasons, was nothing short of expectations.

Joel Hanley got the scoring started 5:40 into the first period for Dallas, with Yanni Gourde tying the game at one a piece 12:32 in the same period.

In the second period Jamie Oleksiak, and Joel Kiviranta both tallied for the Stars as Dallas headed into the third period with a 3-1 lead over the Lightning.

With all due respect, Tampa Bay could not have asked for a better opportunity to come back from a two goal deficit in the third period.

The Lightning were given three power play chances in the third period alone, along with outshooting the Stars 22-2 in the period, yet Dallas was able to hold of the Lightning and tally an empty net goal with just over a minute remaining in regulation to seal the deal for Game One.

In net Andrei Vasilevskiy faced just 19 shots, but allowed three goals against for a save percentage of .842 (his worst of the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs).

At the other end of the ice Dallas Goalie Anton Khudobin faced 36 shots, allowing just one goal against for an incredible .972 save percentage.

To summarize Game One, Dallas played a perfect game against an extremely talented Tampa Bay Lightning team, which saw eleven different Stars’ players record a point.
