It’s been no secret that beyond bringing in Donny van de Beek from Ajax, Manchester United have had a rough transfer window so far. The list of players that Ole Gunnar Solskjær and Edward Woodward have been interested in bringing in has been long, yet they’ve been unable to get any of them to join their side. Of course the most well known of these failed attempts was with Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, but they’ve also missed out on Thiago, Nathan Ake, and will soon miss out on Sergio Reguilon and Gareth Bale. With that being said, it appears that United are only a few days away from bringing in left back Alex Telles from Porto, that is unless Paris Saint-Germain swipes in at the last moment.
While there is little information to glean at the moment, reports have come in over the course of the past day saying that Telles is either close to agreeing to personal terms, or already has, with Solskjær’s club. RMCSport’s Mohamed Bouhafsi broke earlier on Friday morning that the 27-year-old had already signed a 5-year deal with the Red Devils, however it appears that the discussions between club and player are still ongoing. Beyond that, United has yet to finalize the transfer fee with Porto.
If the former Galatasaray standout does move to Manchester, he will certainly be welcomed. While the club does currently sport both Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams at the same position, there’s little doubt that Telles would easily slot in the starting 11. Telles is both strong as a back line supporter and as an attacking threat. Last season, he scored 11 goals in the Portuguese league and added 8 assists. Additionally, Telles would serve as a strong veteran presence for a club currently in need of more of it.
At this point, it seems that the only pot hole for Ole and company could come in the form of Paris Saint-Germain. The massive French side is also reportedly interested in bringing in the Brazil international, particularly after they lost starting left back Layvin Kurzawa to a 6-match ban following a massive fight that broke out toward the end of Paris’ loss to Lyon in Ligue One action. Additionally, the club’s backup left back Juan Bernat will miss a long period of time after he ruptured his ACL.
Look out for updates in the coming days as to where Telles ends up.
