AC Milan have finalized a deal with newly relegated Brescia to bring in wunderkind, Sandro Tonali. The 20-year-old will arrive at the San Siro on a one-year loan spell, yet the club will have an option to buy Tonali’s contract for an initial payment of around 10 million euros with a potential further bonus of another 15 million down the road. The deal will also allow Brescia to earn 10 percent of the money made if Milan elects to sell Tonali at any time.

Tonali has long been an exciting prospect known mostly by fans of Football Manager and FIFA’s career mode. The youngster has long been compared with fellow former Brescia standout Andrea Pirlo, as well as former AC Milan legend Gennaro Gattuso. Because of those incredible comparisons, he’s been treated as one of the young Italians destined to bring Italian football back to prominence. One of Tonali’s new teammates at AC Milan, goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, has also been hyped up in a similar fashion with people comparing him to Gigi Buffon.

Tonali appeared in 35 of Brescia’s league matches last season. During that time, he proved himself to be one of Serie A’s best at distributing the ball. He led the league with 70 accurate crosses and finished in the top 10 with 7 assists. To be blunt, Brescia would’ve faired a whole lot worse with Tonali off the pitch.

The capped Italian international was tapped to be a massive transfer target this summer, with reports that some of Europe’s most prominent clubs were interested in his services. Along with AC Milan, Inter Milan, Manchester United, and Juventus were all after his signature. But thanks to a deal that should help Brescia for years to come, AC Milan wins Italy’s most intriguing young superstar.

Tonali joins Alexis Saelemaekers, Simon Kjær, Emil Roback, Pierre Kalulu, and Brahim Diaz as AC Milan’s sixth arrival so far this summer. Time will tell whether or not this group will be enough to springboard AC Milan back to relevance.
