With news of the Miami Marlins pausing their season briefly to deal with the COVID-19 outbreak in their clubhouse, other teams have been forced to slightly change their schedules around.

First off, the Marlins will suspend their season for a week. They will, tentatively, return Monday, August 3rd. However, Miami Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez put out a statement saying the Marlins should have to follow the 14-day quarantine protocol before returning to South Beach. Major League Baseball will have a choice to make before Monday, if they follow the Mayor’s advice.

The Phillies, who played the Marlins from July 24th-26th, were supposed to host the New York Yankees at Citizens Bank Park. The team will not return to play until Friday, July 31st against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The New York Yankees were supposed to host the Phillies for their home opener in The Bronx on Wednesday and Thursday. Instead, the Baltimore Orioles will play the Yankees in Baltimore. The Orioles were previously scheduled to play the Marlins on Wednesday and Thursday.

That’s all the moves….so far. MLB has said they did have plans in place for a situation such as this. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred was interviewed by MLB Network on Monday. “We built protocols anticipating that we would have positive tests at some point during the season,” said Manfred. “The protocols were built to allow us to play through these positives. We believe the protocols are adequate to keep our players safe.”

When asked about what it would take to shut the season down, Manfred replied, “A team losing a number of players, making it completely noncompetitive, would be something we would have to address and have to think about making a change. Our first concern is the health of the players and their families. And making sure we do everything possible to minimize the spread of the virus to our employees.”
