On the first day of the MLB shortened season, the Los Angeles Dodgers are set to face the San Francisco Giants at 10 PM eastern time. The scheduled starter for the Dodgers was set to be Clayton Kershaw.

Kershaw has been placed on the 10 day Injured List with stiffness in his back. Making the start instead will be rookie Dustin May. May becomes the first rookie to start an opening day for the Dodgers since Fernando Valenzuela in 1981.

This would have been Kershaw’s ninth opening day start. This is also the second Openinh Day in a row he is sitting on the IL. He has a record of 5-1 with a 1.05 ERA on Opening Day.

Last season Kershaw went 17-5 with a 3.03 ERA and 189 strikeouts.
