After testing positive for Covid-19 on Friday, NASCAR has cleared Jimmie Johnson to race this Sunday at Kentucky Speedway after clearing NASCAR’s mandated testing protocol. Johnson tested negative for Covid-19 Monday and Tuesday, and was also cleared to race by his personal physician, which are the exact requirements set by NASCAR regarding the coronavirus. Johnson was the first driver to test positive for the virus, which ultimately led to him missing this past weekend’s Brickyard 400 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Johnson stated in a team release Wednesday, “My family is so grateful for the incredible love and support we’ve received over the last several days. I especially want to thank Justin Allgaier for stepping in for me at Indy and being a true pro. I’m excited about getting back to business with my team this weekend.”
