FC Barcelona officially announced on Wednesday morning that former La Masia graduate Marc Cucurella is set to leave the club for good after he accepted a permanent switch to fellow Spanish side Getafe. In return, the Catalonian giant is set to receive 10 million euros for the midfielder/wing back and will also be given 10 percent of whatever Getafe makes if they sell him in the future.

Cucurella has been more or less a footnote in Barca’s storied history having only taken part in a lone match for the club way back in 2017. He was subbed in with only minutes to spare during an easy Copa del Rey victory over Real Murcia. Then again, he did take advantage of a few loan spells during his time with Barca, first with Eibar that ended with him actually making a permanent move there last year and next with Getafe after returning to Barca a few months later.

So far this season, Cucurella has appeared in all but one league contest for his new club both as a left back and as a left-side midfielder. He’s been one of Getafe’s strongest players this season, particularly in the league, where he’s dished out five assists and has made two tackles per game. There’s been little doubt that he’s been a key contributor to help the Madrid-based club compete for another chance at European competition next year.

Cucurella is just one of a handful of former La Masia graduates to leave Barcelona for greener pastures. Winger Carles Perez is set to finalize a move to Roma at any moment and forward Abel Ruiz is about to do the same at Portuguese club Braga. And with rumors spreading that center back Jean-Clair Todibo is willing to make his loan move to Schalke permanent, the Catalonian giant will have to wait once again for another youth academy graduate to make his mark for the first team. Something’s certainly rotten at the Camp Nou.
