The fourteen season veteran has announced his retirement from professional hockey.

He didn’t suit up for the 2019-20 season going unsigned during free agency. His last taste of the NHL was last year when he won the Stanley Cup with the St. Louis Blues.

He was drafted 50th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in 2001 and has played with the Sabres, Trashers, Penguins, Jets and the Blues over the course of his career.

Thorburn had this to say : “It was an unbelievable ride with a storybook ending. As tough as it is to close this chapter, I am excited for the new adventures ahead for myself and my family.”

He totaled 134 points in 801 National Hockey League games. While he wasn’t ever considered a dominant player, he was the perfect guy to insert into a winning team’s supporting cast.
