The news broke earlier today that superstar Safety Jamal Adams has requested to seek a trade from the New York Jets. Adams has been on the Jets since they drafted him with the sixth pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
In his time in the league he has risen to the best safety in football. He has the most sacks by a defensive back (12), the most tackles for loss (28), and most QB Hits (23). He has hands down been the number one Safety in the league and by a wide margin.
Much like Dalvin Cook having no leverage to hold out against the Minnesota Vikings, Jamal Adams does not have much leverage to ask for a trade from the Jets. He wants a pay raise, that much is obvious, but he still has two years left on his deal.
The Jets do not have any reason to rush this move. They have plenty of time to pay the man. The biggest issue with re-signing him now is that it has already gotten to this point. He could walk away from the negotiation table now and play out the two years. The Jets get the two years out of him still.
In an instagram comment earlier today he stated that “maybe it’s time to move on!”. When he does indeed get paid, he is going to shatter the market (Eddie Jackson, $14.6 million on average).
