In a surprising turn of events the Buffalo Sabres have fired Jason Botterill from his duties as General Manager. They announced in the same statement that they’ve hired Kevyn Adams to take over the lead of the Sabres.
It comes as a huge surprise considering Kim Pegula, the team’s co-owner, announced a couple weeks ago that his job was secure.
Botterill had been in the position since May 2017 and had lead the team to a 88-115-30 record during his tenure. While his results are far from spectacular, you have to consider he didn’t inherit much when he got the job.
Adams, who used to be the team’s senior VP of business administration, will be taking on the job. His name has been thrown around the Sabres is franchise a lot whether it be through vacant coaching jobs or managing positions.
Pagula mentionned they’ve known Adams for close to a decade and he has always excelled in every position he has been put in. He emphasized that this wasn’t a quick decision.
Unlike his predecessor, Kevyn will be taking on a team with tremendous potential with young superstars like Jack Eichel and Rasmus Dahlin. They’re very close to becoming a great team and a playoff threat. We’ll have to wait and see if Adams can be the one to bring them to the next level.
