The NBA has finally announced it’s proposed return plan. 22 teams will meet in Orlando, Florida with the season beginning on July 31st. Each team will play 8 regular season games for seeding purposes and then head straight the Playoffs. None of this is set in stone just yet. This proposal will be taken to the NBA’s board of governors this Thursday. Changes might still be made on the format.

The top 8 seeds of both the East and West are invited to Orlando. The other 6 teams joining are the Phoenix Suns, Portland Trailblazers, San Antonio Spurs, Sacramento Kings and New Orleans Pelicans for the Western conference and the Washington Wizards in the East. Each of these teams are within 6 games of a playoff position. There are more teams for the West because seeding was so close this season. Most teams were battling for playoff seeds with just a game or two in between.

In this format, Game 7 of Finals would end up on October 12th with free agency beginning shortly after. These are the teams you can expect to see in Orlando, in their current seeding order.

East

  1. Milwaukee Bucks
  2. Toronto Raptors
  3. Boston Celtics
  4. Miami Heat
  5. Indiana Pacers
  6. Philadelphia 76ers
  7. Brooklyn Nets
  8. Orlando Magic
  9. Washington Wizards

Western Conference

  1. Los Angeles Lakers
  2. Los Angeles Clippers
  3. Denver Nuggets
  4. Utah Jazz
  5. Oklahoma Thunder

  7. Dallas Mavericks
  8. Memphis Grizzlies
  9. Portland Trailblazers
  10. New Orleans Pelicans
  11. Sacramento Kings

At this point, with such a long break from play, this year’s title could belong to any of these teams. I think we are all just happy basketball is back!
