Noelia Marte, wife of Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Starling Marte, has passed away.

The outfielder tweeted a message on Monday night, announcing the sudden death of his wife due to a heart attack. After a brief message in his native Spanish, he immediately followed it up with a message in English which said: “I go through the pain of making public the unfortunate death of my wife Noelia, due to a heart attack. It is a moment of great sorrow.”

Marte spent the first eight years of his MLB career as a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 31-year-old outfielder was traded to Arizona in January. Both the Pittsburgh Pirates and Arizona Diamondbacks organizations tweeted messages of condolences to Starling and his family.

The Game Changer Sports Network also extends our deepest condolences to Starling Marte, his family, the Arizona Diamondbacks, and all others affected by this tragic, untimely death.
