Earlier this week, the announcement that Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel would not be returning to the team in 2021 sent shock waves throughout the Formula 1 paddock. However, Ferrari did not waste any time in confirming who would be replacing Vettel at Ferrari.
Officially announced on Thursday, McLaren driver Carlos Sainz has been confirmed as the newest driver for Ferrari. After spending the last two seasons with McLaren, Sainz joins the Ferrari team with a wealth of experience. With the additional of Sainz, who is 25, Ferrari now has the youngest team in the paddock.
“I am very happy that I will be driving for Scuderia Ferrari in 2021 and I’m excited about my future with the team. I still have an important year ahead with McLaren Racing and I’m really looking forward to going racing again with them this season,” said Sainz about signing with Ferrari.
With Sainz moving to Ferrari in 2021, a seat with the McLaren team was available, for the span of seemed to be minutes. McLaren announced Thursday that Daniel Ricciardo is joining the team in 2021, departing Renault after two years with the team. This now leaves an empty seat in the Renault camp for the 2021 season.
With three driver changes happening in the span of a single week, the 2021 Formula 1 season is shaping up to be one to watch!
