The NHL draft will be held virtually. The news was reported by Sportnet’s Elliotte Friedman on the NHL Network on Wednesday.

Less than a week after the NFL saw great ratings on their version of a fully televised online draft, the NHL decided they will be following in their footsteps.

It has been said that it could be held as early as June 5th. However, some GMs don’t like the idea of having the draft prior to the end of playoffs. I think it could be a great window of visibility for hockey with sport fans all over waiting for something to watch.

The journalist also added that Montreal, the original host for the event, should expect to host the draft either in 2021 or 2022. Most likely 2022 considering the league is looking to have the entry & expansion draft in Seattle next season.

We should expect to have more information about the draft in the coming weeks after the GMs have further discussed the subject.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
