The Jacksonville Jaguars have traded five-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Calais Campbell to the Baltimore Ravens. The trade will become effective when the new league year begins on March 19.
The trade was first reported by NFL Insider Ian Rapoport on his Twitter page.
Rapoport reports that the move was primarily to help the Jaguars clear salary cap space, and one that will help Baltimore add to their talented defence that is among the best in the league.
The Jaguars are receiving a fifth-round draft pick in exchange for Campbell. The Ravens are reportedly discussing a revised contract for Campbell that is close to being worked out. He is currently set to earn $15 million this season and hit the free agent market next year.
Campbell has recorded at least 50 tackles and 6.5 sacks in each of the past three seasons, one of only three NFL players to do so. He has recorded 696 tackles and 88 sacks so far in his 12-year career.
