The worst case scenario for New York Yankees fans has come true, as another injury has rocked their starting rotation.

As announced by Yankees GM Brian Cashman today, right-hander Luis Severino has been recommended to undergo Tommy John surgery. This recommendation follows several examinations after the 26 year old complained about “soreness” in his right forearm at the beginning of Spring Training. Severino stated that it was the same soreness he felt after Game 3 of the ALCS.

This is a devastating blow to the New York Yankees starting rotation, one that was already going to have to deal with the loss of James Paxton until at least April or possibly May. The Yankees are now without their second and third starting pitchers to begin the 2020 season.

Severino is currently in the second year of a 4-year/$40,000,000 contract.
