GCSN 2020 Royal Rumble Predictions

Later this month, WWE will hold the 33rd annual Royal Rumble PPV at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. The Royal Rumble is one of my favorite WWE pay per views, and with the best of Raw, Smackdown and NXT competing, we wanted to look at who we thought would win the 2020 Royal Rumble. Our 3 wrestling writers will pick a “safe bet” and a “dark horse” pick.

Men

Safe Bet: Roman Reigns
Dark Horse: Keith Lee

Roman Reigns is my safe bet for obvious reasons. People are already talking about Reigns taking the WWE Championship off of Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania. My dark horse may surprise some people. NXT is no longer “developmental”. It’s a third brand, just as important as Raw and Smackdown. What better way to show the WWE Universe that NXT is for real? Especially after what we saw happen at Survivor Series, I could definitely see an NXT superstar winning the Royal Rumble.

Women

Safe Bet: Charlotte Flair
Dark Horse: Sasha Banks

Asuka won the first Women’s Royal Rumble, and The Man Becky Lynch won the second. Many thought Charlotte Flair would’ve won one of the first two Royal Rumble Matches, but she hasn’t. Charlotte can always be thought of as a “safe bet”. My dark horse is Sasha Banks. Her and Smackdown Women’s Champion Bayley are best friends right now, but obviously, that won’t last forever. Bayley is a newly turned heel, and Banks recently came back as a heel, so I do think one of them would have to turn face. But I do see this split happening soon, the only problem is, I don’t see WWE turning either of these women face this quick.

Men

Safe Bet: Roman Reigns
Dark Horse: Aleister Black

Aleister is one of Vince McMahon’s new favorite toys. While currently interlocked in a feud with Buddy Murphy, WWE seed big money in Black and championship implications in the very near future. What makes Black my dark horse for the Men’s Rumble is simple, he’d be the perfect combination of great shock value AND someone who feels like a legitimate contender.

Women

Safe Bet: Charlotte Flair
Dark Horse: Lacey Evans

Aside from The Man herself Becky Lynch, who else has been the single most featured woman in WWE for the last year? Lacey Freakin’ Evans. Tall, strong, blonde, a former US Marine, and solid in-ring skill makes Evans highly marketable in any program. While her feud with the Raw Women’s Champion didn’t go the way many had hoped, one could blame the on the awkward chemistry with Baron Corbin.

Evans is now primed to be booked as a monster babyface, the All-American girl that will kick your teeth in if you get in her way. This is much needed given the current state of the Women’s Division, which is currently dominated by heels and tweens (AKA Charlotte). While the rumors for a Rousey return are very strong, don’t be surprised if it’s the ‘Sassy Southern Belle’ walking into Tampa Bay, Florida with a golden ticket.

Don’t forget that Florida has tons of Military Bases and isn’t too far from her home near Paris Island, South Carolina.

Men

Safe Bet: Roman Reigns
Dark Horse: Aleister Black

Reigns will win, setting up a title match with The Fiend at WrestleMania. As far as Brock goes, he will be eliminated by…Drew McIntyre. It’s time for him to take a larger role, and there’s nothing like a match with Lesnar (and a win) to propel him to the top of the card.

Women

Safe Bet: Ronda Rousey
Dark Horse: Shayna Baszler

If they want Rousey to be at WrestleMania this year, then this is the way to do it! We haven’t seen or heard from Rousey since her loss to Becky Lynch at WrestleMania last year, so having Ronda return to face Lynch makes the most sense. Plus, the story line practically writes itself.

Those are our picks! Who do you have winning the 2020 men’s and women’s Royal Rumble matches? Will it be an NXT wrestler? Could Brock Lesnar win and challenge for the Universal title? Let us know what you think!
