Your 2020 Stanley Cup Champions are the Tampa Bay Lightning!
The Tampa Bay Lightning captured the franchise’s second Stanley Cup in sixteen years as they defeated the Dallas Stars 2-0 last night to close the series in six games.
Brayden Point got the scoring started 12:23 into the opening period with a power play goal assisted from Nikita Kucherov, and Victor Hedman.
Blake Coleman would then give Tampa Bay a 2-0 lead 7:01 into the second period; through forty minutes of play, the Lightning outshot Dallas 21-8.
The Lightning would hold off Dallas’ third period surge which saw the Stars put 14 shots on Vasilevskiy as the 26 year old goalie stopped all of them.
As it had been the entire playoffs, the power play was crucial to who won this series with the Stanley Cup winning goal being a power play goal, which was Tampa Bay’s seventh of the series compared to Dallas’ one.
In net Khudobin did his part for the Stars stopping 27 of 29 shots for a .931 save percentage, but with no power play, or stars like Tyler Seguin, or Jamie Benn showing up all series Dallas fell short.
By no means was this playoff run by Dallas a disappointment, many people had the Stars going home in the First Round, yet they defeated Calgary, Colorado, and Vegas simply to get to the Finals.
Victor Hedman of Tampa Bay was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as Playoff’s MVP. The Swedish Defenseman had 22 points from 10 goals, and 12 assists, along with a 13 plus-minus rating in 25 games played this playoffs.
Hedman is the first Swedish born player to win the Conn Smythe since Henrik Zetterberg won the award in 2008 with the Detroit Red Wings.
