Should Zion Williamson Return this Season?

The answer is simple; no.

Zion Williamson is the cornerstone of a New Orleans Pelicans franchise who scored in the NBA draft lottery this summer. He’s yet play a regular season game this year after tearing his meniscus in the preseason. As fans of the game, we all want to see Zion debut at some point this season, but with the Rookie of the Year race pretty much wrapped up by Ja Morant, is it even worth risking his long-term health? The rookie is box office, he’ll put people in the seats, and will vastly improve a porous Pelicans defense. Is Zion going to carry them to the playoffs this year though? No he will not. The Pelicans are too far behind, and he’s just a rookie.

New Orleans is saying that he is nearing a return and that they will be extremely cautious with their prized rookie. Zion will not play in back to backs and will be load managed similarly to the likes of Kawhi Leonard. Reports are surfacing that the main point of emphasis of his rehab is to teach him how to walk and run properly. Is that not ridiculous?

Ben Simmons Situation?

The Pels are saying that he will return, but my guess is that he will forego his true rookie campaign and be ready for training camp in 2020. This situation reminds us a little bit of Ben Simmons’ rookie year. Simmons didn’t play a single game while recovering from injury. He returned the next year and took home rookie of the year honors. The Aussie recently signed a 5 year $170 million dollar deal with the team. New Orleans is hoping Zion will reward their loyalty as did Simmons when he hits free agency.

  1. imo the only reason why they keep bringing him back up in the conversation is so they keep the hype going…
Pelicans got a plan with Zion… they wont make the same mistakes they made with AD… Zion will be at 100% when he steps in the court
