Team of the Week

This week’s team of the week goes to the defending Kelly Cup Champion, the Newfoundland Growlers. The Growlers affiliation with the Toronto Maple Leafs is a huge part of their success as most of their roster is composed of AHL contracts and a couple NHL contracts. Joseph Duszak (NHL) is currently leading all defensemen with 24 points (6G 18A), while Giorgio Estephan (AHL) is currently 3rd in the league with 31 points (11G 20A). The Growlers special teams is their strength and weakness. The Growlers are 2nd in the league on the Power Play, but are horrid on the Penalty Kill, which is 23rd in the league. If the Growlers can make improvements on the PK then they will have a great chance at back-to-back Kelly Cup Championships.

Three Stars of the Week

Jake Elmer, Maine (2GP 5G 1A)
Mitch Gillam, Wichita (2GP 2-0 1.50 GAA .946 SV%)
Tim McGauley, Utah (2 GP 4G 1A)

ECHL Best Fighter Tourney

Every team has at least one representative, but some teams don’t have that one player who is known to drop the gloves especially with the new fighting rule (10 fights equals 1 game suspension). If your team has a representative that you are confused about just know that they most likely were the last person to get in a fight or leading your team in fights according to hockeyfights.com. Links to players’ fighting profiles will be in the comment section of each match-up.
