Matt Crafton and his ThorSport team have done it again.
The one driver in the 2019 Gander Outdoors Truck Series Championship 4 that did not have a win on the season, Matt Crafton proved that simply being consistent week in and week out can indeed win a championship.
Just two short weeks ago, Matt Crafton and his ThorSport Racing team were below the cut line and not even eligible to compete in the Championship 4. However, a sixth place finish last weekend at ISM Raceway cemented his spot for Friday nights showdown. He proved that you should never ever count out a veteran, especially when so much is on the line.
Crafton bested fellow Championship 4 contenders Brett Moffitt, Ross Chastain and Stewart Friesen Friday night to claim his third Truck Series championship in his 19th full time truck season. Moffitt, who entered the final race of the season as defending champion, finished 5th behind fellow Championship 4 driver Ross Chastain who finished in 4th. Stewart Friesen faded late in the race and finished in 11th position.
In a post race interview on FS1, Crafton exclaimed, “It feels amazing. One step closer to (Ron) Hornaday. And they called us the underdog. We fought harder. Everything went our way. I got up on the wheel and got it done. I’ve taken a lot of criticism on restarts, and it was time to get it done now.”
Congratulations to Matt Crafton and his ThorSport Racing team on winning the 2019 NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series Championship!
