Carolina Panther’s quarterback Cam Newton is expected to part ways with the team following the end of the 2019 season. The 30-year-old veteran started the season for the Panthers but was replaced with rookie Kyle Allen after suffering a Lisfranc injury in the third week of the preseason. Newton and the Panthers started the season 0-2. In the third week, rookie quarterback Kyle Allen was handed the reins and the Panthers won 5 straight. It does indeed look like the writing is on the wall for Cam Newton-his time in Carolina is coming to a close. However, it is important to note that Cam can still play. Fans and critics alike remember his 2015 MVP season, where he threw for 3500 yards and 30 touchdowns, leading his team to an astonishing 15-1 record and a Super Bowl bout against Peyton Manning’s Denver Broncos. There are a number of teams that need a quarterback in the NFL right now and Cam Newton will likely have a huge market if the team decides to release him. Let’s talk about some possible suitors.
The Chicago Bears rival only the Cleveland Browns when it comes to underachieving this season. After stealing the NFC North for the first time in nearly a decade, the future looked bright for the Bears. However, third-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky seems to be doing everything in his power to hold the bears back from remixing “The Super Bowl Shuffle”.Trubisky has been awful and it may be time for GM Ryan Pace to admit he missed on that draft pick and bring a decorated veteran in to fill the role.
PROS: Offensive Weapons, Defense, Coaching
CONS: Offensive Line, Chicago’s Distaste for Divas
Predicted Chances of Happening: 40%
The Denver Broncos have never really replaced John Elway. Yes, they had Peyton Manning for a few years, and yes, he did bring them to two Super Bowls, and yes, he did win one. But, since then, their roster has seen very mediocre quarterback talents. The problems with Denver go much deeper than quarterback, but they do have some excellent pieces to build around. Cam Newton joining the team that cost him the perfect season would certainly be a step in the right direction.
PROS: Dynamic running back in Phillip Lindsay, elite pieces on defense
CONS: Average receiving corps, below-average offensive line, not a great GM in John Elway, big names usually don’t sign with Denver in FA
Predicted Chances of Happening: 60%
The Cincinnati Bengals are a huge dumpster fire. They’re mismanaged, untalented, and hard to watch, but perhaps bringing “Super Cam” to Cincy could begin to turn things around. Filling the quarterback position with Cam Newton would free up the Bengals to draft superstar defensive end, Chase Young with the #1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. It’s unlikely the Bengals would try to start a rebuild with a veteran quarterback that tends to get hurt, but it’s not like the Bengals are known for making great decisions.
PROS: Excellent receiving corps, above-average running back in Joe Mixon, young and athletic defensive pieces to build around.
CONS: Bad Owner, bad GM, NOBODY wants to play for the Bengals, like at all.
Predicted Chances of Happening: 29%
