Greg “Prince of War” Hardy is stepping in on short notice to fight Alexander “Drago” Volkov this Saturday due to Junior Dos Santos having to pull out because of a bacterial infection. Greg Hardy fought this past October against Ben Sosoli. He originally won a unanimous decision, but it was overturn because Hardy used an inhaler between rounds. The last time we saw Volkov was in October of 2018 where he suffered a knockout loss to Derrick Lewis with eleven seconds to go in the fight, after Volkov was dominating the entire fight. How do Hardy and Volkov compare? Lets see.
Greg Hardy’s game plan is going to be to do one thing only, and that is to knock Volkov out. He has shown to be a very wild fighter at times. He has been questioned on his ability to go the distance in his fights. He will be questioned even more because of his inability to use his inhaler in between rounds. So, if his asthma flairs up, will he fight through it? or will the fight be stopped for his safety? Hardy for sure has the power to knock Volkov out. The question is will he be able to land clean.
Alexander Volkov’s game plan I think is going to be the exact same as the Derrick Lewis fight. He will keep his distance, jab and leg kick and avoid the big power shots from Hardy. He’ll probably throw a lot of body kicks to chip away at Hardy’s gas tank. He has been out of action for just over a year so that makes you wonder, will he have that ring rust? Also with coming off a devastating knockout like his last fight, we will have to see if Volkov will be hesitant and tentative.
Prediction: Greg Hardy isn’t ready for this big leap in competition, Volkov keeps his distance and wins by unanimous decision.
