College Football Conference Power Rankings: Week 7 (10/10-10/12)

What a landscape changing week for the top-25 teams. Seven top-25 teams went down, with four of them losing to non-ranked teams. Former #3 Georgia took their first lost, in what should have been an easy win. There were three top-25 match-ups this past week as well and four undefeated teams saw their streaks break, leaving only twelve teams with perfect records…all of which are currently ranked in the top-25. Here is your College Football Power Rankings by Conference at the end of week 7:

American Athletic Conference

ncaa.com & bigonsports.com

2.) #21 Cincinnati Bearcats
Record: 5-1
Last Week Position: Stayed at #2
Bottom Line: Coming off a quality victory against Houston, Cincy will get a weaker opponent, in Tulsa, this weekend. The Bearcats are favored by 17 points in the contest. 1.) #3 Clemson Tigers
Record: 6-0
Last Week Position: Stayed #1
Bottom Line: Yet again, the Tigers won a barely contested game against Florida State, winning the game 45-14. With Wake Forest going down this week, there are no other ranked teams in the ACC aside from Clemson. Knowing this matter, Clemson now has the easiest strength-of-schedule in the remaining season and they should win out. But where this goes against the Tigers, is the fact that they won’t have any top games to prove themselves to the college football playoff committee. This was showcased by LSU jumping Clemson in the AP poll. Clemson goes against Louisville this week, who beat Wake Forest by putting up 62 points in the game. Louisville has the best chance of beating Clemson than the rest of Clemson’s remaining opponents.

2.) Pittsburgh Panthers
Record: 4-2
Last Week Position: Moved up from #3
Bottom Line: Coming off a bye, the Panthers go against the Syracuse Orange. The Orange are coming off a lose to NC State 16-10.

3.) North Carolina Tar Heels
Record: 3-3
Last Week Position: Moved up from #7
Bottom Line: The Tar Heels are coming off a bye-week. They face an always tough opponent in the Virginia Tech Hokies who are coming off a win against Rhode Island.

4.) Duke Blue Devils
Record: 4-2
Last Week Position: Stayed #4
Bottom Line: Duke got back to their winning ways by beating Georgia Tech 41-23. The Blue Devils’ defense came in clutch during the entire game, stopping the Yellow Jackets on 3rd down nearly 100% of their drives. Duke will go up against, now, formerly ranked Virginia this weekend in Charlottesville.

Record: 5-1

1.) #4 Ohio State Buckeyes
Record: 6-0
Last Week Position: Stayed #1
Bottom Line: Coming off a much needed bye-week, Ohio State gets a decent team to try and return to the game without losing the momentum as they face Northwestern at Ryan Field in Illinois. The Buckeyes still boast the top offense in the country and have a top-3 defense in the nation as well. With the game against Wisconsin looming in the near future for Ohio State, they must first get past a pesky Wildcat team that is notorious for upsetting top teams in past seasons.

2.) #6 Wisconsin Badgers
Record: 6-0
Last Week Position: Stayed #2
Bottom Line: Proving that they will be the ones to face Ohio State or Penn State later this year in the Big Ten Championship, the Badgers picked up a big win against Michigan State, shutting them out 38-0. Staying undefeated and moving up to #6 in the nation, Wisconsin and RB Jonathon Taylor will face a weakened Illinois team this weekend as they get closer and closer to the big game against the Buckeyes in two weeks.

3.) #7 Penn State Nittany Lions
Record: 6-0
Last Week Position: Stayed #3
Bottom Line: Penn State picked up their first top-25 win against Iowa under the command of QB Sean Clifford, the Penn State offense was in control for the 2nd quarter and beyond. He threw for 117 yards and a touchdown and RB Noah Cain rushed for over 100 yards and scored a touchdown.
