Allmendinger Wins Xfinity Thriller on “Roval”

After many attempts to capture a win for his Kaulig Racing team this season, AJ Allmendinger finally claimed the win he had been searching for all throughout the 2019 Xfinity Series season after coming close on multiple occasions.

Allmendinger won his third career NASCAR Xfinity Series win Saturday at Charlotte Motor Speedway fending off challenges from Austin Cindric and Tyler Reddick in the process. The win is his first in the series since the 2013 season. With 20 laps remaining in the race, Allmendinger put the bumper on then leader Christopher Bell and held the lead until the checkered flag.

“I just knew if I was stuck behind for a couple more laps he could start running his own pace and be comfortable and it was probably going to be game over for me. If it was the Cup Series I would have done the same thing. I just had to go then,” Allmendinger stated after the race. “God, the last few times we’ve road course raced I’ve been gutted not getting my win. I can’t thank my race team enough.”

Following Allmendinger to the checkered flag was Tyler Reddick, who started in second at the drop of the green flag, but fell back into the field after an early race spin. His recovery to finish inside the top five was his fourth top five on road courses this season. Austin Cindric finished in third, despite having a broken left rear shock through the final laps of the race. Justin Allgaier and Noah Gragson finished in fourth and fifth respectively.

Chase Briscoe and Christopher Bell battled late in the race, but an on-course incident would end both of their chances to win the race. Coming into the final two corners, Briscoe made a move on the inside. Briscoe then carried the car well past the racing line, pushing Bell onto the outside of the curbing. Coming into turns two and three on the next lap, Bell made contact with Briscoe causing him to spin. Because Bell missed the chicane and did not slow down properly, Bell was sent to the back of the pack.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series travels to Dover International Speedway next weekend for the Use Your Melon, Drive Sober 200. Fans can catch all the action on NBCSN on October 5th at 3pm.
