The St. Louis Blues are adding a big name defenceman to their Stanley Cup defending team this season.
On Tuesday, the Blues made a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes that saw D Justin Faulk pack his bags for St. Louis, in exchange for D Joel Edmundson, prospect Dominik Bokk and a 2021 seventh round pick. Along with Faulk, the Blues will receive a 2020 fifth round pick from the Hurricanes.
Faulk, a 27-year-old native of St. Paul, MN, USA, will be entering the final year of a six-year contract worth $29 million. After the trade was completed, he signed a seven-year extension with the Blues worth $45.5 million, an AAV of $6.5 million.
Faulk was selected by the Hurricanes in the second round of the 2010 NHL draft and has suited up for the Hurricanes his entire career. He scored 11 goals and had 35 points over 82 games with the Hurricanes last season.
Edmundson, a 26-year-old native of Brandon, MB, Canada, was selected 46th overall in the 2011 NHL draft by the Blues, also playing his whole career with the team that drafted him. A Stanley Cup champion last season, Edmundson netted 2 goals and 11 points in a shortened 64-game season with the Blues.
