This weekend’s championship welterweight unification bout will give the boxing community a solid illustration of what is to come for the division’s future. The fight will be between WBC Champion Shawn Porter (30-2-1, 17 KO’s) against IBF Champion Errol Spence Jr. (25-0, 21 KO’s), and will take place at the welterweight limit of 147 pounds.
Spence is the favorite going into the fight and is seen as the boogeyman of the welterweight division. The question for the fight will be if Shawn Porter will be able to sustain his smothering offense for 12 rounds, or will Errol Spence be able to outbox him and possibly end the fight early. Keep in mind, neither fighter has been stopped before the final bell.
Another interesting aspect of the fight, will be if the winner will get a lucrative fight with boxing legend Manny Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39 KO’s) who currently holds the WBA championship belt. A fight should not be considered difficult to make since all three fighters belong to Al Haymon’s PBC boxing stable.
The fight will be aired on Saturday, September 28th at 9PM ET. PBC Boxing on Fox PPV.
