According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, Ronda Rousey has decided that she will be taking a hiatus from WWE in order to start a family.
This comes one day after reports surfaced that Rousey will undergo hand surgery this week. Rousey reportedly broke her hand during the main event of WrestleMania 35, where she defended her RAW Women’s Title in a losing effort to Charlotte Flair and the winner Becky Lynch.
Rousey posted a photo on her Instagram two hours ago, with the hashtag: Impregnation Vacation.
Rousey had mentioned in an interview with Shelburne back in January about her desire to settle down and start a family, however her passion for WWE had grown bigger than she ever thought it would. With Rousey’s very legitimate injury, she is most likely seizing the opportunity to both rehab her injury and begin a family.
Regardless of the reasoning, Rousey’s absence will be felt. As she has been the focal point of the Women’s Division since WrestleMania 34 when she made her in-ring debut.
Rousey’s vacant spot on the roster will certainly be something to be desired within the women’s locker room. With tonight marking the first night of the Superstar Shake-Up, both the RAW and SmackDown Live Women’s Divisions are wide open for anyone to take control.
It should be noted that WWE has made no formal announcements regarding the either reports. Rousey is still under contract with WWE until April of 2021.
