Race to MVP: Harden or Giannis?

Although there are multiple candidates for Most Valuable Player this year, only two names are being debated across the country. James Harden, Reigning MVP, and Giannis “The Greek Freak” Antetokounmpo, both of whom have had phenomenal seasons. Tonight, they will face off in Milwaukee in a highly anticipated showdown.

The Case for James Harden:

In an historical season, Harden has dominated as the lead offensive player in the league. Currently, he is averaging 36.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 7.5 assists, 2.2 steals, and .8 blocks per game. Who could forget his 32 game streak of 30 points or more? He has scored 30 points on all 29 opposing teams in the league, and is the first to do so. Harden has scored at least 57 six times, twice as many times as any other player other than Wilt Chamberlin in a single season. He scored his career high of 61 twice this year, once at Madison Garden and once at home. Harden has made a defensive drive this year as well, landing himself second in steals and first in deflections.

Carrying his team from the 14th seed to the 3rd seed, in a matter of 2 months with a revolving door of teammates due to several injuries, Harden needs no introduction to the MVP candidacy. He has proven himself to be the Most Valuable Player on his team, time and again.

The Case for Giannis Antetokounmpo:

Antetokounmpo’s Bucks have the best record in the NBA this year at 55-19. A monster on defense, he is averaging 27.4 points, 12.6 rebounds, 6 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.5 blocks per game. Dominating the paint, Giannis is Milwaukee’s best rim protector. Often, he is assigned to the opposing teams worst perimeter player, giving Giannis the ability to move freely along the baseline and in the paint. However, this is not all that he has to offer. Giannis has fluidity on both sides of the court, being the highest scorer on his team.

Antetokounmpo is the best player on the best team in the NBA. He is playing the best season of his career, as the backbone of his team.

Both players are dominant, defining the season for their team. Who will come out on top? Tip-off is Tonight at 7 pm Central on TNT. All eyes will be on these two strong candidates as they battle it out.
