It was announced today by Kiki VanDeWeghe, Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations for the NBA, that Joel Embiid (Center, Philadelphia 76ers) would be fined $25,000 for “for public criticism of the officiating, which included the use of inappropriate language.”
Frustrated following the 76ers 112-109 loss to the Boston Celtics, Embiid was clearly upset with a non-call that occurred during the final minute of the game where Al Horford is seen clearly making contact as Embiid shoots. Embiid loses control of the ball in the process. While Joel stated post-game that he needed to do a better job, the missed call clearly bothered the superstar.
According to the NBA’s Last Two Minute Report, the league agreed with Embiid that the call was missed by referees. However, The Association clearly disagrees with the 76ers’ star ending his post-game press conference with, “The referees f—–g suck,” before walking away from the podium in obvious frustration.
Joel Embiid sure knows how to end a post-game presser 🙃 pic.twitter.com/k7o3Evq2Ea
