NHL Power Rankings Week 18

Heading out of the All-Star game, the NHL is now gearing up for the trade deadline on February 25th.

With every team now over 50 games into their seasons’ here is how the top ten teams in the NHL stack up.

10. Vegas Golden Knights:

Vegas is currently third in the Pacific Division, and have gone 4-6-0 in their last ten games.

The Golden Knights are coming off an impressive 3-2 victory over Tampa Bay, and will look to win back to back games as they travel to take on Detroit at 7:30 PM ET.

9. Montreal Canadiens:

Montreal is playing very well right now, going 7-2-1 in their last ten games, including currently sitting on back to back wins.

However, after Boston’s overtime loss to the Rangers, the Bruins have regained their spot over the Canadiens for third in the Atlantic Division.

The Canadiens host the Winnipeg Jets in a great test tonight as they look to improve their impressive 16-10-3 home record.

8. Boston Bruins:

After back to back wins over the Capitals, and Islanders, the Bruins fell to the Rangers in overtime, however have found their way back into the top three of the Atlantic Division.

However Boston is going to have to find a way to improve on the road, as they currently are 11-10-5 away, and are 18-7-3 at home.

7. New York Islanders:

The New York Islanders are currently in first place in the Metropolitan Division, and have gone 6-2-2 in their last ten games.

What is most impressive to me is their league best 128 goals against.

The Islanders will look to continue their success on the road as they take on the New Jersey Devils tonight at 7:00 PM ET.

6. Toronto Maple Leafs:

With the contract extension signing of Austin Matthews, Leafs fans have to feel pretty good right now.

Toronto also has won three games in a row, and are second in the Atlantic Division with an overall record of 33-17-3.

The Maple Leafs will take on Original Six Rival Montreal Saturday at 7:00 PM ET.

5. Nashville Predators:

Well with the acquisitions of Brian Boyle, and Cody McCleod, the Nashville Predators have definitely added size and strength to their depth.

Nashville has gone 5-4-1 in their last ten games, and are currently three points behind the Winnipeg Jets for first place in the Central Division.

The Predators will look to continue to improve their power play, and home record tonight as they host the Dallas Stars at 8:00 PM ET, in a significant division match up.

4. Winnipeg Jets:

What’s keeping the Jets from being in the top three?

The fact that the San Jose Sharks just beat them 3-2 two nights ago.

Winnipeg has the second best home record in the league currently at 20-6-3, and sit first in the Central Division with an overall record of 34-16-3.

The Jets have gone 7-2-1 in their last ten games, and the scariest aspect is this hot streak for the Jets is the fact Laine is not even firing on all cylinders.

Winnipeg will look to bounce back from their loss to the Sharks, as they take on the Canadiens on the road at 7:30 PM ET.

3. San Jose Sharks:

The San Jose Sharks are scary good right now.

Currently on a three game winning streak, with wins over the Capitals, Coyotes, and Jets.

San Jose is second in the Pacific Division, four points behind the Calgary Flames, and have an impressive home record of 18-4-4.

However, on the road, the Sharks are 13-12-3.

2. Calgary Flames:

Calgary is definitely making a run for the top of the league this year.

In their last ten games, the Flames are 8-1-1 and are currently first in the Western Conference.

With a home record of 17-4-5, and a road record of 17-10-0, Calgary has proven they can win anywhere.

Tonight at 9:00 PM ET, the Flames host the San Jose Sharks in what is an incredible Pacific Division match up

1. Tampa Bay Lightning:

The Tampa Bay Lightning remain atop the league with a record of 39-11-3, however they have gone 6-3-1 in their last ten games, which is unlike their season usual 8-1-1, or 9-1-0 last ten record.

The Lightning by far have the most dangerous offensive units in the league with a league best goal differential of plus-58, and a league best goals for of 207, the only team currently with more than 200 goals thus far.

Tampa Bay will look to bounce back from their overtime loss to Vegas, as they host the St. Louis Blues tonight at 7:30 PM ET.
