Bucks Land Mirotic

Just hours away from the trade deadline the Milwaukee Bucks look to answer some of the trades from other contenders in the east by trying to catch up. After acquiring Stanley Johnson yesterday, I was unsure how that trade truly benefited the Bucks, but it seems like they had a plan in the works. Today they agreed to trade the recently acquired Johnson, Jason Smith, and multiple second round picks to the Pelicans in exchange for Mirotic.

We recently covered the Stanley Johnson trade and talked about the benefits he brings to a team, but in truth, he didn’t seem like an excellent fit with the Bucks. Mirotic on the other hand fills a perfect need for them. Not only does he fit Milwaukee’s offensive needs perfectly, with Khris Middleton in his contract year, and most likely not returning, his presence at the four spot would allow Giannis Antetokounmpo to play at his natural small forward role, causing serious matchup problems for teams in the future.
