According to Sources, The Dallas Mavericks and New York Knicks have reached an agreement on forward Kristaps Porzingis.
This is the first blockbuster trade with the deadline approaching on February 7th. This multi-player deal will also include sending Tim Hardaway Jr. and Courtney Lee to the Mavericks for Dennis Smith Jr., Wesley Matthews, and Deandre Jordan.
There were conversations earlier today that Porzingis was unhappy with the Knicks outlook for the future. Thursday afternoon, news came out that Porzingis will be headed out of New York.
The Mavericks will now look to relinquish their offense with Luka Dončić and Kristaps Porzingis joining forces. Although Porzingis is where all the attention lies from this trade, he will still have to rebound from an ACL tear that happened last season.
On the other side, The Knicks will look to add depth to their roster and many expect the franchise to go after all-star talent in free agency. Both the Knicks and Mavericks benefit from this trade.
Will Porzingis come back as the same all-star he was before the injury? Will Tim Hardaway Jr. continue to bring his young talent to Texas? The Knicks are ranked as the worst team in the Eastern Conference, but the Dallas Mavericks are a few games under .500. The Mavericks could possibly make a playoff run if this trade works out well.
