The Neal Brown Era in WVU Has Begun

On December 31st, 2018 rumors began to swirl that the West Virginia Mountaineers Head Coach Dana Holgorsen was leaving for the same position at the University of Houston. The next day the rumors began on who would replace Holgorsen. The initial rumors were Troy HC Neal Brown and Cincinnati HC Luke Fickell. WVU Athletic Director Shane Lyons interviewed Brown and Fickell, along with at the time WVU defensive coordinator, Tony Gibson.

On January 5th, 2019 the announcement of Troy HC Neal Brown being the successor of Holgorsen’s HC Position was made official. One thing began to become very clear at the beginning and that thing is he has a player’s first attitude. He also said he was going to recruit the best players in the state of WV and so far he has gotten one Tennessee to commit to question his commitment. Here are a few early wins for the new Mountaineer Head Coach:

Tate Martell

Tate Martell, former #2 dual-threat QB recruit in 2017, did not transfer to WVU from the Ohio State Buckeyes, but just having Martell make an official visit was a big deal. Martell would go on to commit to Miami.

Darnell Wright

Darnell Wright is a five-star offensive linesman out of Huntington, WV. Wright has always been a strong Tennessee Volunteer but has warmed up to the new Mountaineer Coaching staff. He is going to make an official visit. Will Brown get him to flip?

Austin Kendall

Former Oklahoma Sooners QB Austin Kendal decided to transfer to West Virginia. This transfer garnered a lot of attention on social media due to the fact Oklahoma was trying to block Kendall from being immediately eligible after their past two transfer QB’s, Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray,  won the Heisman Awards. They also got Jalen Hurts to transfer to OU that day.  Kendall has two years of eligibility left so it will be interesting to see if he gets the starting nod over Jack Allison.
