WWE has announced today that SmackDown Live superstar Aiden English will be making his commentary debut tonight, as he joins the 205 Live commentary team for the first time.
According to WWE.com, the move will not stop English from being an active superstar on SmackDown Live, and is being done as a part of the “new era” movement that’s been taking place since the return of the McMahon’s.
Michael Cole, Senior Director of On-Air Talent stated:
“We wanted to do something special for WrestleMania season, and Royal Rumble week kicks off the Road to WrestleMania,” said Cole. “We’ve been working with Aiden at the WWE Performance Center to see if he has the chops, and it turns out he’s pretty good.”
While to many the move seems a bit out of nowhere, it does present a great opportunity for Aiden English to shine in a different capacity. With WWE’s bloated roster, and only a finite amount of TV time every week; superstars like English have historically been lost in the shuffle. However, with WWE’s new “try-and-push-random-people” initiative, English could be getting his next big break.
The former NXT Tag Team Champion hasn’t been seen on WWE tv since Mid-October where he faced Rusev in a losing effort on SmackDown Live.
