UPDATE AS OF 1:10 P.M: According to Jason La Conforza, Antonio Brown has requested a trade. It is unlikely that the team trades him and it was not a demand to be traded.
This story all starts with an alleged knee injury that caused Brown to miss two practices before the week 17 matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals. A game in which was win or go home for the Steelers.
Antonio Brown ended up sitting out the game. The story reported was that Brown actually blew up on teammates and skipped team meetings. The Steelers went on to win the game 16-13. However, due to a Baltimore Ravens win the Steelers were still knocked out of the playoffs.
Now Brown has been critic tweeting throughout New Year’s Day. George Kittle is the breakout Tight End for the San Francisco 49ers. This tweet led many to believe that he wanted to go to San Francisco.
This isn’t the first time that Brown has been in trouble with the Pittsburgh Steelers organization. This could be the perfect time to move on from Brown.
Tomlin and company are getting ready to blow the team up and start over. Bell is gone, Big Ben has been teetering on retirement for three years now, and an Antonio Brown trade could open up a good amount of money for the team to start over.
Brown is due to hit the cap at a total of $22.1 million next season. If traded after the June 1st deadline of 2019, then the Steelers could open up and extra $15 million in cap space. If they pull the trigger too soon (pre June 1st) then they would only open up a little over $1 million in cap space. The rest would turn into dead money.
