Early Look At Vezina Front Runners

A few week away from the mid point of the season, let’s take a look at what the Vezina Trophy race looks like.

Pekka Rinne:

Last year’s Vezina Trophy winner, Pekka Rinne has had yet another impressive season despite missing some time early in the season due to a concussion.

Rinne has the league best goals against average with an average of 2.07, along with the league’s fourth best save percentage with a percentage of .927.

The Finnish goalie has recorded 14 wins, which includes 2 shutouts.

Andrei Vasilevskiy:

Like Rinne, Vasilevskiy has missed some time due to injury, but has returned and appears to be playing solid.

Vasilevskiy has a goals against average of 2.35, along with the league’s best save percentage of .930.

Despite only playing in 16 games, he still has recorded 11 wins, and a shutout.

If Vasilevskiy can stay healthy, at the moment he appears to be my favorite for the best goalie in the league.

Mikko Koskinen:

Mikko Koskinen has shared starts with Oilers Goalie Cam Talbot, however has made the most of his opportunities.

Playing in 17 games, Koskinen has 11 wins, which also includes 3 shutouts.

Koskinen also has a goals against average of 2.18 (second best) and a save percentage of .928 (third best).

Marc-Andre Fleury:

Vegas goalie Marc-Andre Fleury currently has the most wins with 19, along with the most shutouts with 5 thus far this season.

However, his individual stats will need to improve to beat out other front runners.

His goals against average is 2.53, and his save percentage is just above .900 with a percentage of .907.

John Gibson:

Anaheim goalie John Gibson has greatly helped the Ducks find their way and success as of late.

Gibson has the third most wins with 15, and one shutout.

His save percentage is the fourth best in the league with a percentage of .927.

Gibson also has a goals against average of 2.52, which is tenth in the league.

There is still plenty of time left, and hockey to be played, however these five goalies in my opinion have the best chance to win the Vezina.
