According to a report from “De Telegraaf”, highly rated Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong is set to make a move to Paris Saint-Germain after this season.
The defending French League champions sent a delegation to Amsterdam this week in order to steal the 21-year-old from the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, all teams that have made it known that they were looking to grab the prized youngster.
Football Oranje said that the player’s agent was seen speaking with this delegation and supposedly helped move negotiations to the point where Paris is set to initiate talks with Ajax Director Marc Overmars in the coming days.
There is still a potential chance that any of the other aforementioned clubs could swoop in at the final moment, but it appears that all the dominos are falling where they need to for the red and blue.
If this deal does go through as planned, this will almost double the current Eredivisie transfer record which was set back in August 2017 when Tottenham spent €40 million euros on Ajax center back Davison Sanchez.
Frenkie de Jong started his professional career in 2014 with Willem II. After a few years, he finally made his first appearance in the red and white during the 2016-17 season and proved to be a fantastic passing midfielder almost immediately. In fact, he finished the 2017-18 campaign with seven assists in only 22 matches.
