No one was expecting the Sabres to win ten straight games and sit atop the NHL this season; but here we are let’s analyze this impressive winning streak.

The winning streak would start with a 6-5 come from behind over time win over Montreal, and would end with a 3-2 overtime win against San Jose.

The eight wins between them would be a 4-3 shootout win over Vancouver, a 2-1 win over Tampa Bay, a 2-1 shootout win over Winnipeg, a 3-2 win over Minnesota, a 5-4 overtime win over the Penguins, a 5-2 win over the Flyers, and a 3-2 overtime win over Montreal.

Now let’s take a look further.

Seven of these ten games were won in either overtime or a shootout, and only seven the win over Philadelphia was the only win that was more than one goal.

In five of these ten wins Buffalo trailed going into the third period but came from behind and found a way to win.

Even more impressive was the Sabres’ defensive play.

In five games only two goals were scored on Buffalo, and in two other games only one goal was scored on the Sabres.

By no means does this winning streak solidify anything, but no one can deny this is an impressive feat for this Buffalo team.
