The 3-8 Jacksonville Jaguars will opt to start backup quarterback Cody Kessler on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts. The decision comes after another subpar season performance from Blake Bortles who has 223 completions for 2,572 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.
Last year’s defense has not been as dominant either which largely helped Bortles maintain the starting role on the Jaguars. Now that the defense is not playing on the same elite level Bortles is being forced on the field more. Throughout most of the season, the Jaguars staff continued to voice their support for Bortles as the lead QB among calls to bench him.
Jacksonville did not commit to Cody Kessler for the remainder of the season, but only this one game. The move indicates that Jacksonville most likely recognizes their season is done since the Colts are division rival.
