Washington Redskins quarterback Alex Smith will miss the remainder of the 2018 season after breaking both the tibia and fibula in his right leg.
The break occurred when Smith was sacked by both JJ Watt and Kareem Jackson. Smith immediately rolled over and laid on his back in pain before being carted off the field. Both the Texans and Redskins benches cleared to show their support for Smith.
Head coach Jay Gruden revealed the severity of the break in his post-game conference where he said Smith would require immediate surgery.
Backup quarterback Colt McCoy entered the game going 6-12 for 54 yards and a touchdown. The Redskins had a chance to steal the game in the final seconds, but kicker Dustin Hopkins missed the final field goal of 63 yards with only 3 seconds left.
The Texans continue their winning streak to 7 games while the Redskins fall to 6-4 and now must find an immediate answer for quarterback.
