Most of us are used to laughing when Jacksonville comes up in a football conversation. It’s been quite some time since you could look at a Jaguars team and think they could do some damage.
Last year was the start of something special. Tom Coughlin took over as Vice President of Football Operations and has changed the entire way the team handles itself. They have the talent in place, and now they have the culture in place.
Coughlin doesn’t just let things slide. Star CB Jalen Ramsey has been suspended for a full week after threatening “war” on reporters.
Also being suspended for a week was DE Dante Fowler Jr. for conduct unbecoming of a jaguars player.
Both players are key pieces of “Sacksonville” this season. It may only be the preseason but these suspensions have huge implications. Ramsey is arguably the best player on the team. Coughlin is sending a message to everyone on that roster.
The Jaguars want to have a winning culture. Tom Coughlin is a winner. Coughlin is a known winner with the New York Giants. He wants to win everywhere he goes.
Twitter has been an achilles heel for some players and Ramsey took to Twitter to call out the media.
Fowler Jr. got in numerous fights with Yannick Ngakoue in practice. They had to be separated on many occasions.
The Jaguars are going to be the real deal if Coughlin is willing to suspended two of his top ten players in order to achieve the winning culture. For the short term, this is bad news for the Jaguars. Long term it’s a good sign for the future of the team.
