This summer’s transfer window has been preparing us for the upcoming season with moves that will most likely cause a shift in domination across the board for club football. Cristiano Ronaldo’s unexpected move, especially, surprised many and will most likely put the UEFA Champions League trophy on Juventus’ radar. Domestically, Juventus is expected to dominate… with only one possible threat: Inter Milan.
The black-and-blues have been definitely exceeding their expectations in this pre-season. Very wisely, the Inter staff has assembled a team of players whose potential has either been ignored by mass media, or they are players who have been underestimated in the summer market. The names are well-known, while the possible technical formations impress.
Their biggest (potential) hit of this transfer window, Arturo Vidal could be added to the team’s defensive midfield next week, where Marcelo Brozović would be more than happy to cooperate alongside the Chilean. Radja Nainggolan has already been confirmed to hold Inter’s center-midfield, where Ivan Perišić and Matteo Politano will help from the wings to create for the much-praised striker Mauro Icardi.
Obviously, the team could be very dangerous offensively, as even though outstanding as sweepers, Vidal and Brozović have also displayed mastery in attacking, especially on fast breaks. Coming from the left wing, Perišić needs no introduction. His powerful left foot and athletic agility speak for his prowess on the pitch. Politano, although a relatively unknown name in the Serie A, has proven his availability for the forwards by coming from the right to create, while sometimes keeping his eye on the opponent’s net. The center-midfield undoubtedly belongs to Nainggolan, whose presence on the pitch has always been loud since his glory days at Roma. Up front, Icardi’s name has often covered the first pages of Italian newspaper not only due to his ability to score, but also his almost chess-like placement on goal-scoring positions.
In tandem with such moves, right-back ŠimeVrsaljko and left-back Kwadwo Asamoah are key acquisitions this summer. An ex-Juventino, Asamoah has proven precious to the left wing, as his strength and fighting spirit have often built scoring scenarios the Turin-based club. At Inter, he’s expected to perform similarly. Across the field, Vrsaljko’s career at Athletico Madrid, his efforts in the Croatian campaign of this summer’s World Cup, and his previous familiarity with Italian football will make Inter fans look forward to his presence on the right side of the pitch.
While Miranda and Milan Škriniar are Inter’s iciest reliance on center-back, Stefan de Vrij’s addition will only make the defensive line link more confidently, with him as a secret card. Leading from in front of the net, Samir Handanović’ heroisms will continue to only frustrate the opponent.
As posted on the club’s Twitter account, the team could perform on a typically defensive 4-2-3-1 formation. Although daring, a 3-5-2 formation could be possible, with the full-backs moving up to put more trust on the defense, to armor the midfield, and become more dangerous up front.
No matter what, Luciano Spalletti’s sharpness will decide. The former Roma-coach has to be Inter’s most reliable element, as after all, it all comes down to the strategic preparation of a team.
According to Transfermarkt, Inter has so far spent a sum of £66.60-million ($87.40-million, which would put their compatriots to shame if their efforts are successful. Who knows, we may even see the Milano blues push further than we think even on the European stage, to reintroduce themselves with dignity on the UEFA Champions League platform after six years of absence.
