At last, the wait is finally over and we at long last learn the winner of the Manny Machado sweepstakes.
The Los Angeles Dodgers made it clear during the All-Star game that they were the front-runners to trade for Manny Machado.
The deal was held up due to a “brief medical blip”. The trade will include outfield prospect Yusniel Diaz as the centerpiece along with pitching prospects Dean Kremer and Zack Pop, second baseman Breyvic Valera, and third baseman Ryan Bannon.
Diaz, who is considered the Dodgers’ top prospect, had two home runs in Sunday’s Future’s game and is hitting an astonishing .314 this year for the Dodgers Double-A Tusla team. He accompanies that average with six home runs and and 30 RBIs in just 59 games.
Earlier reports indicated that the Philadelphia Phillies had a handshake agreement with Los Angeles for Machado, but that seems to have fallen through the cracks.
Before the All-Star game, Machado spoke briefly about any updates he or his agent might have on these rumors.
“Nothing, I haven’t heard anything. I’m just worried about the game today. Whatever happens moving forward will happen, and there will be a time and place for everything.”
While the Phillies and Brewers seemed to have had an outside chance late last night, Manny Machado has found a new home.
