In this ongoing series here at the Game Changer Sports Network, we take a look at this upcoming season’s best candidate to have a breakout season and become a superstar.
In case you missed the teams we have covered already, you can click on their name here and it will take you directly to their article: Atlanta, Arizona, Baltimore, Buffalo, Carolina, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Dallas.
Denver’s defensive upside has been a strength of their for the better part of the last decade. Star player after star player started coming out of that defense.
The linebacker position has been one of the most secure spots on that team this entire time. With the likes of Von Miller, Brandon Marshall, and newly drafted Bradley Chubb (projected to play outside linebacker in this system), there isn’t much room for a breakout candidate.
Edge rusher Shaquil Barrett has had flashes of being a superstar like player last season. He had a real chance at play time after Shane Ray got injured again. When Ray came back, the defense looked more lost.
In 48 games, Barrett has 11 sacks and 78 total tackles. He played much better than former first round pick Ray throughout last year. Coaches showed interest in him after Ray came back from injury. Ray’s snap count went down as Barrett’s went up.
Even without Ray missing the first quarter of this year with another injury, the depth chart already has Barrett ahead of him. Barrett’s play style is very complimentary to that of Miller.
The way he moves on the field shows a level a character that is already a superstar. With the addition of Bradley Chubb I do expect play time to decrease while his production increases.
