Trevor Ariza will sign a one-year, $15 million year deal with the Phoenix Suns, according to Shams Charania.
Throughout the 2017-18 NBA season, Ariza stood out as a key piece in Houston’s challenge to Golden State, as he played the 3-and-D role with great effectiveness. The wingman will join his seventh NBA franchise after four years in Houston, coming off a year where he averaged 11.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.5 steals.
Although seeing his usage rates decline each year with the Rockets, that was the effectiveness that Ariza has always been known for. In 2017-18, he recorded highs in effective field goal percentage (54.6%), as well as net rating (7.8) during his time with the Rockets.
The deal adds some much needed defense to the starting lineup of the Suns, who have offensive talents Devin Booker and DeAndre Ayton also on the roster.
Houston’s loss is Phoenix’s gain, and the Rockets will need to find a replacement if they are to replicate last year’s success.
