It looks like Westbrook’s party worked after all.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Paul George has agreed to a $137 million, four-year max deal with the Thunder. The deal also includes a player option. Under immense speculation surrounding his future, including links to the Los Angeles Lakers and the Philadelphia 76ers, George has committed to another four years partnered with Russell Westbrook.
The deal, which accompanies a three-year, $27 million renewal of Jerami Grant, the Thunder will suffer a record $130 million in luxury tax penalties. This can be drastically reduced, according to Bobby Marks, by waiving Carmelo Anthony via the stretch provision. This would see the Thunder save up to $70 million in luxury tax.
It seems that by cementing his own future, George has potentially liquidated the future of his teammate.
More to come.
