The Detroit Red Wings have agreed to a two–year extension with the defenseman, Mike Green. They also have been rumored to be interested in two other veterans as well.

The Red Wings, who are in need of a veteran backup goalie, are also expected to sign Jonathan Bernier. Bernier, a career .914 save percentage veteran, would be replacing Jared Coreau. Coreau has told the team that he will be exploring other opportunities in the league.

In a tweet by Darren Dreger, Thomas Vanek is considering his return to the motor city. Vanek, who had great success in Detroit, was traded to the Florida Panthers during the 2016-2017 season. The 34-year-old forward scored 56 points last season in 80 games. Though Vanek is not a game changer to the Red Wings, he would be a good addition.

Detroit would still need to re-sign restricted free agents Dylan Larkin, Andreas Athanasiou, and Anthony Mantha. Valtteri Filppula is another possible forward the Red Wings could be eyeing.

Look for Detroit to be active Sunday Afternoon as the free agency begins.
